UTV: Hip-Hop Workshop Documentary [Part 1]

True Hold Records artist Conscious Route teamed up with local Edinburgh youth organisation Citadel. Conscious Route worked alongside Danny Wiedenhof aka DRW who attends as a senior member of Citadel youth service. The pair over space 5 session wrote lyrics and recorded for a rap song start to finish. The process was documented by Edinburgh Undersound's Jason Calder, Jason was also behind the shooting and production for this video plus the video for this track. Other people involved in the overall project consist of Vocals production and Mastering by Drew Devine (Sons of Scotland), Beat Production by Sean El (United Front).

Funding was granted by Creative Scotland, from Cash Back creativity scheme. The funding was originally part of a 3 months project, run by Urban Lotus representative Danny Ladwa.

Conscious Route / Sean El - Sinking LP [Free Download]

The Sinking' LP is the latest release from artist Conscious Route (CCF/SOS) with production from beat maker, Sean El (United Front). The pair teamed up after meeting at a Soul Mischief gig back in 2012, since then they strengthened their link collaborating on tracks over the last year, which formed the back-bone of this release. The release is eighteen tracks of boom bap - a feast of conscious flows with controversial punch-lines. The LP has a host of features, including Wolverhampton's BigDutty Deeze, Cambridge-based Dillah (B-illa), Edinburgh crew members Werd (SOS), Jordan Butler (SOS), and London-based singer Anna Fontana. With Sean El also dropping in on the raps, still the list goes on. The diverse LP was mostly spot-written, aside from 4 tracks, with the recording of the beats and raps all completed in just a 5 hour period. With a very diverse beat selection there seems to be something for every kind of hip hop head, even turning the ears of hip hop non-believers to maybe liking a track or two. Basically, this is a must listen!

Released on 13^th March 2013, ‘Strait Jacket’ is the new concept EP from Edinburgh’s Werd (SOS). Taking a trip through a surreal world, and one that mirrors his own, these six tracks have been used as a tool to reflect.  Obscure, unusual, but typically personal, this is what happens when you combine quotes from a fairly average animated film, with the strangely arrogant-self loathing of a Scottish rapper.

‘Strait Jacket is set an alternate history where magic was proven to exist in the year 1899. The use of sorcery spread throughout all facets of society and changed the social and technological development of the world. The location is Tristan, an urban metropolis.

Due to an invisible contaminant called the ‘malediction’, or simply the ‘curse’, people who use magic too often are in danger of transforming into horrific, malevolent abominations of nature, completely immune to ordinary weapons and commonly referred to as ‘Demons’. Agents wear a suit of armor which resists the negative transforming effects of magic. These suits are referred to as ‘mold’ armor, or more commonly a ‘strait jacket’, due to the fact they constrain human beings in their natural form.’

S.A.S: are a London-based hip hop duo and top names in the UK scene, who came to the mainstream attention after they performed a freestyle rap on New York City radio station Hot 97 in 2001. S.A.S. were affiliated with New York-based group; The Diplomats aka Dip Set. They are commonly referred to as S.A.S. or Eurogang. Eurogang refers to a group they formed in the U.K. The group was born in the United Kingdom, North London in East Finchley but came to the United States in 1998. Despite having come to the United States, the group is based and lives in the United Kingdom.


Werd / Deeko: have worked with, and continue to work with new and old artists in Scotland and abroad, Creating music with some of Edinburgh's top producers and artist in the genre as well as performing gigs at venues in the major cities and supporting some of Hip Hop's biggest acts.
