White Dove [EP] by Philomenah

Born in Shetland and now based in Edinburgh, Philomenah’s debut ep “White Dove” is slated for release on 25/02/22. Her first full project is a collaborative effort with producer RJ Cherry. “white dove” is imbued with themes of emotional abuse, toxic love, heartbreak and sexual empowerment. A 6-track project, it chronicles the experience of falling for someone who is not what they appear to be; the harrowing ordeal of becoming romantically attached to a lie.

 

Including the previously released “aphrodisiac” and “god help the girl”, “white dove” also features 2 brand new songs which, along with the intro and interlude, comprises a project that concisely explores the pain, isolation, confusion and healing involved with being a victim of narcissistic abuse. 

 

Featuring soundbites from various forms of media and spoken word from Philomenah herself, there is a conceptual overtone to the EP inspired by independent cloud rap artists such as Bones. Sonically, the primary inspirations for the r&b-focused EP are Mariah the Scientist, Kehlani, Summer Walker, Tinashe and Drake; and the project is produced, mixed and mastered almost entirely by RJ Cherry.

Conscious Route & True Note: Lost Routes [Flip Tape]

 Conscious Route is a rapper, MC, poet and singer-songwriter who was born in London before moving to Edinburgh over a decade ago. 

 In 2020 he unleashed the collaborative - ‘Lost Routes’ album, alongside producer True Note which went on to receive a 4-star review in The Scotsman upon its release. In addition to this - two of his more recent releases ‘Trojan’ and his feature on ‘Dragons Jaw’ by ‘Post Coal Prom Queen’ were named track of the week on BBC Introducing Scotland. Sensory EP - a collaboration with producer Toni Smoke – also saw 2 tracks receive worldwide airplay on Rapstation 365 – Radio station of legendary Chuck D as well before releasing the Protest EP at the beginning of October.

 Now on the 1st anniversary of its release, Conscious Route revisits the critically acclaimed Lost Routes album by adding stylistic changes with contributions from some of the scene's most highly regarded producers. Forest DLG, Toni Smoke, Konchis, Jamie Bostron and Monosapiens provide refreshing takes, as well as further contributions from Scottish rising producers Vagrant Real Estate, Scott Bathgate, Crink, Rapper/Producer Mackenzie and Canadian counterpart Vigilante Underground.

 

 These newly remixed and re-worked versions presented on Flip Tape draw from a variety of influences and styles from laid-back ambient production (Fields of Hope), haunting Lo-Fi (Awakening) through to high-octane drum and bass (Everything Test) adding fresh perspectives to already enjoyable tracks.

 

Flip Tape is a fantastic re-working of Conscious Route & True Notes critically acclaimed 'Lost Routes' album - adding further diversity to his sound and continuously expanding body of work which he looks to further add to throughout 2021 and beyond…

 

 

"25/26" - McRoy & Vagrant Real Estate

"25/26" is the new single from rising Scottish talents McRoy and Vagrant Real Estate. McRoy reflects on life in the harsh reality of poverty in Scotland, struggling to get by and stay on the right side of the law. Melancholy production from Vagrant Real Estate underscores McRoy's bars illustrating paranoia and desperation, effortlessly switching rhyme schemes and flows as he talks frankly about the catch 22s of drug addiction, crime and hustling to get by.

McRoy is a Scottish rapper who across a handful of releases and freestyles has amassed a cult following in his home country, widely recognized by fans and peers alike as one of the best in his scene. Through unflinching tracks like "Hardman Talk" and "Outlaw", McRoy has gained hundreds of thousands of streams across platforms with little to no mainstream support or radio play, where fans have instantly connected with his effortless flow and intricate rhyme schemes. Most recently he was featured on DJ Prospect's Scotland Cypher on GRMDaily alongside the heavyweights of the scene including Ransom FA, Shogun and Oakzy B, cementing his status among the top of his game, and also supported RA The Rugged Man at his recent Glasgow tour date.

Vagrant Real Estate is an Aberdeen based producer, and has received notable coverage from the likes of Ministry of Sound, DJ Mag and i-D Magazine. He was also named as one of Vic Galloway’s (BBC Radio Scotland) Top 25 Artists To Watch in 2021, and comes off the back of producing for Edinburgh dark pop act Misty Galactic, highlighting his versatility and depth as a producer. His last full length instrumental album "SWEETHEARTGRIPS" saw wide ranging support from BBC Radio Jazz Nights, Wordplay, UKHH and front page coverage on Aberdeen's The Press And Journal newspaper.
