Conscious Route - Protest EP

Protest EP

Conscious Route is a rapper, MC, poet and singer-songwriter who was born in London before moving to Edinburgh over a decade ago.

In 2020 he unleashed the collaborative - ‘Lost Routes’ album, alongside producer True Note - The album received a 4-star review in The Scotsman and picked out for a ‘track of the week' on BBC Introducing Scotland. In addition to this - his last two releases ‘Trojan’ and his feature on ‘Dragons Jaw’ by ‘Post Coal Prom Queen’ were named track of the week on BBC Introducing Scotland and his Sensory EP from August was a collaboration with producer Toni Smoke – which saw 2 tracks receive worldwide airplay on Rapstation 365 – Radio station of legendary Chuck D.

Protest EP is a thundering blend of contemporary sounds and old-school execution showcasing Conscious Route’s diversity and versatility as an artist and a willingness to embrace more cutting-edge production styles while not compromising his individuality or past credentials. The EP is produced by fellow Edinburgh-based beat-maker - Crink and cuts by iconic UK turntablist, DJ JabbaThaKut on the track ‘C4’.

Never one to conform to industry trends or expectations – Protest EP is another heavy addition to Conscious Route’s diverse and progressive back catalogue which he looks to continue to add to through 2021 and beyond…

Father & Son : Conscious Route / Tzusan [Video]

Conscious Route & Tzusan: Father and Son

Following a brief hiatus, Edinburgh-based rapper, Conscious Route has joined forces with producer Tzusan for the new single, ‘Father and Son.’ The single features swirling sonics alongside Conscious Route’s deep lyricism to deliver a track that demands more than one listen to unlock. There is also a darker, downtempo and more atmospheric remix from Konchis which strips the sound back to basics allowing Conscious Route’s rhymes to sit at the forefront.

Father and Son follows 2020’s “Lost Routes” collaboration album with producer True Note which went on gain a 4-star review from Fiona Shepherd, have 5 tracks named among Scotland’s top 100 tunes last year in The Herald and having ‘track of the week’ on BBC Introducing Scotland. ‘Lost Routes’ by Conscious Route & True Note

Conscious Route & True Note: Lost Routes

Edinburgh-based rapper, Conscious Route and producer, True Note bring you their collaborative debut album, ‘Lost Routes.’ As True Note brings a range of musical styles from hip-hop to grime and drum and bass, Conscious Route uses his lyrics to deliver social commentary, personal insights, and politicized wordplay.

The Album is out now on all digital platforms

Music from this 20-track release has already been catching attention, with three instrumentals and one full track being picked up by Channel 4 for their mini documentary series, ‘Take Your Knee Off My Neck,’ a response to the killing of George Floyd, which shared experiences of racism as it delved into the issues around the Black Lives Matter movement.

You can hear instrumental extracts from ‘Needles', 'Mash up Days', 'Cat’s out the Bag' and the full vocal version of 'Frontline' on episodes 1, 2 and 4:

A powerful and personal contemplation on UK life in the 21st Century, this release possesses more than enough bump to take the message to radio and the clubs too.

On a personal note, I can't recommend this album enough. It's utterly outstanding. -  Drew Devine aka Werd

One for your collections guys. Enjoy.

And much love and respect to Bright Sparks for allowing us to put it out.

Watch the BAFTA winning video below:

Who says hip-hop in Scotland isn't recognized or respect? Surely those people that doubt the genre are slowly digesting their words. Hip-hop in Scotland is thriving, it’s time people sat up and noticed.

Sometimes Buckie drinking young guys can shine as bright as anyone else...
